'Grace of Monaco' trailer: Nicole Kidman channels Grace Kelly

Nicole Kidman plays the American actress turned princess in a film about reconciling her different roles as mother, wife, actress and royal.

LOS ANGELES, March 6 (UPI) -- Nicole Kidman doesn't perfectly resemble Grace Kelly, the American actress who left Hollywood to become the Princess of Monaco, but she's hoping to channel the starlet's often overlooked suffering.

Grace of Monaco takes place six years after Kelly's picture-perfect marriage to Prince Rainier III, and depicts the dark underside of her marriage. Grace wants to go back to Hollywood to act -- Hitchcock wants her -- but Rainier wants her to maintain her royal image.

Frank Langella, Tim Roth Paz Vega, Parker Posey and Milo Ventimiglia also star.

The film was originally slated for a November 2013 release -- just in time for awards season -- but will open May's Cannes Film Festival instead. It might have had something to do with avoiding the fallout from Naomi Watts' Princess Diana biopic last year, a critical and commercial flop.
