LOS ANGELES, March 5 (UPI) -- Steven Spielberg may direct a remake of West Side Story.
The 67-year-old director has reportedly expressed interest in a remake of the iconic 1961 film. Fox currently owns the rights to West Side Story, a Best Picture Oscar winner and a movie musical many consider an all-time great. The studio has unlocked the film for a potential remake due to Spielberg's interest, but no details are set in stone.
Remakes have been all the rage in recent years, and most have fallen short of the originals. Total Recall and Oldboy are just two of many that disappointed critics and fans by not living up to their predecessors.
Spielberg has more than a few projects currently in the works, and will serve as producer for the upcoming Transformers: Age of Extinction, Jurassic World, and a second and third Tintin films.
