LOS ANGELES, March 5 (UPI) -- Leah Remini, who made headlines when she left Scientology last year, has gotten her own reality show on TLC, set to air in 12 half-hour episodes this summer.

The as-yet-untitled project started filming this Wednesday, and will feature Remini's husband, Angelo Pagan, 9-year-old daughter Sofia, her mother, stepfather, sister, brother-in-law and several household employees.

“Leah is a no-nonsense, hard-working, relatable mom, wife, daughter, and sister. Her sharp humor and unfiltered family are a perfect match for the network,” TLC General Manager Nancy Daniels said in a statement. “This series continues our focus on creating compelling series about remarkable families, using heart and humor to anchor it to the TLC brand.”

The 43-year-old former King of Queens star appeared on Dancing With the Stars last year. She was also featured in two VH1 reality specials about planning her wedding and the birth of her daughter.

Though TLC said the series will focus on Remini's Brooklyn roots and Los Angeles lifestyle, though most viewers are likely to be interested in her sudden departure from Scientology last year.

Remini told Buzzfeed in February that she left the secretive religion out of concern for her daughter, who was about to start the church's "auditing" process.

"I started thinking of my own childhood and how I grew up resenting my mother because she was never home," Remini said. "But my mom thought she was doing something good; she thought she was helping the planet. That's what the Church tells you."
