Fats Domino celebrates 86th birthday

The legendary rhythm and blues singer, Fats Domino, turned 86 Wednesday.

NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- It seems only appropriate that Fats Domino's birthday falls right at Carnival.

The 86-year-old Rock'n'Roll Hall of Famer, who turned 86 years old Wednesday, has been named the honorary grand marshall of the Krewe of Orpheus parade in his hometown.

While Domino won't ride in the parade on Lundi Gras, March 3, his son, Antoine Domino III, will represent him on the parade float.

In a career than began in 1949, Domino released 35 Top-40 singles. He is considered to be an important influence on the music of the 1960s and 1970s, including Paul McCartney and John Lennon, both of whom recorded Fats Domino songs.
