LOS ANGELES, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- The Bachelor has set a relatively low bar for Juan Pablo Galavis. After 17 seasons, the show has only resulted in a few, seemingly genuine relationships, though ABC continues to tout its questionable format (25 women pining over one man) as a real way for contestants to find lasting love.
But Galavis, the show's 18th bachelor, has made it much harder to pretend. By many viewer accounts, he seems disinterested, vapid and inconsiderate. In one particular episode, Galavis appeared to shame a contestant who spent a hot and heavy night with him in the ocean. He also garnered controversy last month for homophobic comments, though he later apologized.
Not even former contestants seem to like him. Jef Holm, The Bachelorette's eighth season runner-up, told Us Weekly on Tuesday that Galavis stood out from other TV bachelors -- and not in a good way.
"I think he's by far the sleaziest Bachelor that's been on the show. He basically just hooks up with the girls," Holm said. "I know a lot of the guys from the show, and you can kind of tell the guys who are doing it for good reasons… who really want to find somebody. He likes the attention, he likes the fame, he likes the girls to kiss him and hang out, and I just think people read through it a lot."
"I've had the chance to talk to a few of the girls from his season who have been at events and things, and I mean there are very few good things that have been said about him," Holm added. "I actually don't know of any good things that have been said about him."
Holm's sentiments seemed to coincide with Tuesday night's dramatic episode, when Andi Dorfman, an Atlanta lawyer, took Galavis to task for a "nightmare" fantasy-suite date.
"I saw a side to him that I didn't really like," she said, before dropping out of the competition. "The whole night was a disaster."
