Queen hopes baby arrives before her summer vacation

KENDAL, England, July 18 (UPI) -- Queen Elizabeth II, on a visit to northern England, told a little girl she would like her next great-grandchild to arrive before her summer vacation.

The queen, accompanied by Princess Anne, made a one-day trip to the Lake District, The Daily Telegraph reported. A girl at their first stop, Kendal, asked the queen if she hoped Prince William's first child is a boy or girl.

"I don't think I mind but I would very much like it to arrive because I'm going on holiday soon," the queen replied.

The queen is scheduled to leave for her annual stay at Balmoral in Scotland at the end of next week. If the duchess of Cambridge, the former Kate Middleton, has not given birth by then, the queen will have to decide whether to remain in London.

The baby will be third in line to the throne regardless of gender. The rules of succession have changed to end male priority.
