NEW YORK, June 14 (UPI) -- "Kinky Boots," which won the Tony Award for Best Musical this week, is to kick off its national tour in September 2014 in Las Vegas, producers announced.

Directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell and written by Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper, "Kinky Boots" opened on Broadway April 4, 2013, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre where it continues to play to sold-out houses.

"We are so excited to take 'Kinky Boots' from coast to coast, so that the entire country can share in the joyousness that our audiences on Broadway experience every night," producer Daryl Roth said in a statement Thursday.

"And what a privilege it is to be the first Broadway show to launch a national tour at the beautiful new Smith Center. We look forward to an exciting opening night in Las Vegas next September," said producer Hal Luftig.

"I am thrilled that we're able to launch our first-ever national tour with this great show," said Myron Martin, president and chief executive officer of The Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas. "'Kinky Boots' has been our most requested and talked-about musical of the season."
