'Bridges of Madison County' headed to Broadway

NEW YORK, June 7 (UPI) -- A new Broadway musical based on Robert James Waller's best-selling novel "The Bridges of Madison County" is to start performances Jan. 13, producers announced.

Directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher, the show will officially open at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in late February. No casting has been announced yet.

"This story about a devoted Iowa housewife and her unlikely love affair with a National Geographic photographer has inspired seven of the theater's most distinguished artists to create a new Broadway musical," a news release said.

The show will feature music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown and a book by Marsha Norman. The scenic design will be by Michael Yeargan, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Donald Holder and sound Design by Jon Weston.

Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood starred in a 1995 film adaptation of Waller's novel.
