'Pippin,' 'Kinky Boots' are big Outer Critics Circle Award winners

NEW YORK, May 13 (UPI) -- "Pippin" has won a leading seven Outer Critics Circle Awards, including the Outstanding Revival of a Musical prize, it was announced in New York.

"Pippin's" other accolades include Outstanding Director, Choreographer and Lighting Design, as well as Outstanding Actress in a Musical for Patina Miller. Her co-stars Terrence Mann and Andrea Martin were recognized as Outstanding Featured Actor and Actress in a Musical respectively.

"Kinky Boots" scored the awards for Outstanding New Broadway Musical, Outstanding Actor in a Musical for Billy Porter and Outstanding New Score.

Nathan Lane was declared Outstanding Actor in a Play for his performance in "The Nance," while Cicely Tyson won the Outstanding Actress in a Play honor for her work in "The Trip to Bountiful."

"Matilda the Musical" won the awards for Outstanding Book of a Musical and Set Design.

"Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike" was declared Outstanding New Broadway Play, while cast member Kristine Nielsen won for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play.

"Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" earned the title of Outstanding Revival of a Play, while "My Name is Asher Lev" was named Outstanding New off-Broadway Play and "Here Lies Love" was named Outstanding New off-Broadway Play.

The prizes will be presented May 23 at a ceremony at Sardis Restaurant in Manhattan.
