Raimi sues insurance agent, claims fraud

HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi has filed a lawsuit accusing his insurance agent of overcharging him more than $72,000, Los Angeles court documents show.

Raimi's lawsuit alleges Jerry Goldman committed fraudulent concealment, professional negligence and unjust enrichment, The Hollywood Reporter said. The suit was filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court.

The document said Goldman provided homeowners and personal liability insurance to Raimi from 2004 to 2011, but Goldman overcharged by $72,783, in addition to fees more than what is customary for a broker to take.

Raimi has asked the court for the money he is owed, punitive damages, his costs and interest. The exact amount he seeks was not reported.

A federal indictment handed up Nov. 7 charged Goldman with 10 counts of improperly taking more than $800,000 from clients, including actor Tom Hanks and musician Andy Summers of The Police.
