MICHAEL McKEAN: Michael McKean's publicist says the actor is hospitalized in stable condition after he was hit by a car and broke his leg Tuesday in New York.

McKean, 64, is starring on Broadway in the revival of "The Best Man." He is also known for his work in the films "This is Spinal Tap," "Best in Show," "A Mighty Wind" and For Your Consideration," as well as TV's "Laverne & Shirley."

The New York Daily News said McKean was seen bleeding from the head after a car knocked him down just before 3 p.m. EDT.

"He'll be OK. Hopefully, he'll be fine," his publicist, Harriet Sternberg, told the newspaper. "It's pretty devastating."

Sternberg said McKean's wife, actress Annette O'Toole, was flying from Los Angeles to be with her husband.

"It's the first time he will have ever missed a curtain in his entire life," Sternberg said, referring to McKean's being unable to perform in the play. "He's never missed stage, screens in film or television. His understudy has never gone on in 40-plus years."

McKean and O'Toole were nominated for an Original Song Oscar in 2003 for "A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow" from "A Mighty Wind."

The Daily News said no arrests were made in the incident.

DONALD DRIVER: NFL wide receiver and author Donald Driver was declared the winner on "Dancing with the Stars" in Los Angeles Tuesday.

Driver and his professional partner, Peta Murgatroyd, beat out fellow finalists Katherine Jenkins, a classical opera singer, and William Levy, a telenovela star, and their professional partners for the coveted mirrorball trophy.

Asked by host Tom Bergeron how he feels, Driver replied: "Amazing! This is awesome!"

"Congratulations," Bergeron said.

"Thank you so much, Tom," Driver said.

SHIRLEY MacLAINE: Meryl Streep is to present Shirley MacLaine with the American Film Institute's 40th Life Achievement Award at a black-tie gala in Culver City, Calif.

The ceremony is to take place June 7 at Sony Pictures Studios. It will air June 24 on TV Land.

Streep, who was honored with the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2004, played MacLaine's daughter in "Postcards From the Edge." Both actresses are Academy Award winners.

"The world loves Shirley MacLaine," said Bob Gazzale, president and chief executive officer of AFI.

"AFI's challenge will be how to fit it all into one evening because hers is a life that spans from movies to television to Broadway, books and beyond. Perhaps more than any other recipient, with Shirley I would underline the word life in Life Achievement Award," he said. "Hers is a story more than just movies. It's an epic journey, and she has invited all of us to come along for the ride."

"It is sure to be a magical evening celebrating Shirley's career, especially with Meryl Streep and many other stars who will be on hand," said Larry W. Jones, president of TV Land.

SUPERHERO WEDDING: Openly gay superhero Northstar proposes to his partner in the next issue of the Astonishing X-Men comic-book series, Marvel announced Tuesday.

Jean-Paul Beaubier, also known as Northstar, asks his boyfriend, Kyle Jinadu, to marry him in the issue that hits stores Wednesday.

"The Marvel Universe has always reflected the world outside your window, so we strive to make sure our characters, relationships and stories are grounded in that reality," Axel Alonso, Marvel's editor in chief, said in a statement on the Marvel Web site. "We've been working on this story for over a year to ensure Northstar and Kyle's wedding reflects Marvel's 'world outside your window' tradition."

The wedding is to take place in the June 20 issue of the comic.

"The story of Northstar and Kyle is universal, and at the core of everything I write: a powerful love between two people who have to fight for it against all odds," said author Marjorie Liu. "This is the quintessential Marvel story, one that blends the modern world with the fantasy of superheroes in order to tell an exciting story that begins with a wedding -- and continues in ways you can't imagine."
