O'Neal, 71, appeared on ABC's "The View" Tuesday to promote his memoir, "Both of Us: My Life with Farrah," which chronicles his life with Fawcett, his longtime girlfriend, who died of anal cancer in 2009.

"I'm having things removed," O'Neal said, explaining why he wore a bandage on his nose.

Asked if he has the will to fight for his life, he replied, "I do, but if I don't make it, I'll be with my girl."

He said his doctors are treating the cancer by "freezing the prostate" and are optimistic about his chances for recovery.

"Because of the kind of prostate cancer I have, I am a candidate for this cryopathy, it's called," he said. "Well, I'll be really cold."

Pressed to reveal whether he is afraid of dying, he said, "No."

"She wasn't either," he said of Fawcett. "I learned from her."

O'Neal said he wrote the book about his relationship with the onetime "Charlie's Angels" star about a year ago.

"It was a way to stay near her, honestly," he said. "I had kept journals, so I had our story and I got help to organize it and to be as honest as possible."

O'Neal, the star of "Love Story" and "Paper Moon," successfully battled leukemia in the late 1990s.

JALEEL WHITE: Actor and TV personality Jaleel White became the latest celebrity eliminated from "Dancing with the Stars" in Los Angeles Tuesday.

"I'm going to tell you a secret," White said upon hearing he and professional dance partner Kym Johnson had been voted off the program. "I really only thought I'd last about three dances in this competition.

"I've made incredible friends," he said. "The fans have been incredible. I love Roshon Fegan. I'm happy [the judges] saved him; he has a bright future."

Still in the running for the coveted mirror-ball trophy, along with their partners, are Fegan, actress Melissa Gilbert, football player Donald Driver, "Extra" host Maria Menounos, actor-model William Levy and singer Katherine Jenkins.

DAVE GROHL: Musician Dave Grohl announced Tuesday he plans to direct and produce a documentary about the famed Sound City recording studio in Van Nuys, Calif.

Best known for his work with Foo Fighters and Nirvana, Grohl said he came up with the idea for the film after purchasing the Neve 8028 recording console from Sound City Studios last year.

He said the console, built in 1972, is considered by many to be the "crown jewel of analog recording equipment," having recorded such artists as Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Cheap Trick, Guns 'N Roses, Fear, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Slipknot, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica and other musical icons during the past 40 years.

Roswell Films, a division of the Roswell Records label that releases Foo Fighters music, will distribute the film. It is being written by Mark Monroe whose credits include "The Cove," "Once In a Lifetime" and "The Tillman Story."

"'Sound City' is a film about America's greatest unsung recording studio," Grohl said in a hand-written letter posted on Facebook. "Deep in California's sun-burnt San Fernando Valley, tucked away behind the train tracks and dilapidated warehouses, it was the birthplace of legend. It was witness to history. It was home to a special few, intent on preserving an ideal."

JOE PERRY: American rocker Joe Perry has composed two tracks for this week's episode of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," CBS said Tuesday.

The instrumental music will be heard in Wednesday's episode of the series.

Perry -- co-founding member, principal co-songwriter, lead guitarist and co-producer of rock band Aerosmith -- is a multi-Grammy Award-winning musician. He garnered a Grammy nomination for his solo album, "Mercy."

"It was really exciting that 'CSI' gave me this opportunity to contribute to the show," Perry said in a statement Tuesday. "The first piece is pure adrenalin rock 'n' roll. The second gave me a chance to work for my disc jockey son, Roman, who contributed some of his electronic dance music."
