Dancer Miguel Terekhov dead at 83

NEW YORK, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Famed dancer Miguel Terekhov has died of complications of fibrosis of the lungs at the Texas home of his daughter, his representatives said. He was 83.

The School of Dance at the University of Oklahoma, which Terekhov co-founded in the 1960s with his wife, Yvonne, confirmed his Jan. 3 death to The New York Times.

A native of Uruguay who retired in 1991, Terekhov was a dancer with Col. W. de Basil's Ballets Russes from 1942 to 1947, and with the rival Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo from 1954 to 1958, the Times said.

Terekhov is survived by his wife; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Impallomeni and Christina Conway; and two grandsons, the report said.
