Chef Trotter to close noted Chicago eatery

CHICAGO, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Noted chef Charlie Trotter says he will close the upscale Chicago restaurant that has borne his name for 25 years, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Sunday.

Trotter, 52, told the newspaper he intends to shutter the 120-seat Charlie Trotter's and its associated Trotter's To Go in August. He said his future involves traveling the world with his wife Rochelle, and then pursuing a master's degree in philosophy and political theory, the Sun-Times said.

Trotter said the restaurant has "always been profitable," though business has "certainly slowed down like a lot of high-end restaurants," and he will eventually open another restaurant.

"I just had to put the flag in the sand and say I've got to go for this; otherwise, I never will," he said. "If I don't go for something while I'm in the prime of my life and I have the means to do it, well, why wouldn't I?"
