Obama to sit down with BET for special
WASHINGTON, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama is to be interviewed for a BET Networks news special about how the economic crisis is affecting African-Americans.
"The President Answers Black America" is to air Monday.
The cable network said this will be the president's first television interview on the economic crisis with BET Networks. The sit-down is to be conducted at the White House by Emmy-Award winning journalist and former KTLA anchor Emmett Miller.
"We are thrilled to be the platform where the president will exclusively address our community," Loretha Jones, president of original programming at BET Networks, said in a statement Friday. "This conversation is particularly important given the impact the economic environment is having on African-Americans."
SAG re-elects Ken Howard president
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Hollywood's Screen Actors Guild says it has elected Ken Howard as president and Amy Aquino as secretary-treasurer for second terms.
Both will serve two-year terms, beginning Sunday.
Ballots for the national officers election were mailed to 100,994 paid-up SAG members on Aug. 23, and 23,459 were tabulated Thursday, for a return of 23.23 percent. Howard received 17,492 votes, with David Hillberg getting 3,047 votes, Sharon Rubin receiving 1,681 votes and Asmar Muhammad receiving 855 votes.
Aquino ran unopposed and received 20,399 votes.
"There's nothing more important than members exercising their right to vote, and I'm very grateful for their continued support," Howard said in a statement. "With so many pro-merger candidates elected again this year, there's no doubt what members want, and I look forward to presenting a comprehensive plan to the SAG and [American Federation of Television and Radio Artists] national boards in January."
"Two years ago, SAG members definitively set the guild on the road to merger, and this election confirms they want it more than ever," Aquino added. "I'll continue working to strengthen SAG's operations and finances, and I'm honored to be able to help my fellow performers achieve the crucial goal of creating one union."
Holmes to guest star on TV's 'Mother'
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Katie Holmes has taped a guest appearance for the U.S. sitcom "How I Met Your Mother," CBS announced.
The "Dawson's Creek" alum will play Naomi, "the girl in the slutty pumpkin costume that Ted looks for every year on Halloween," the network said in a synopsis.
The character was first mentioned in Season 1 of "Mother."
Holmes is to appear in the Oct. 31 episode of the show.
"We're thrilled to have Katie Holmes joining us this Halloween to play a role literally six seasons in the making," Craig Thomas, series co-creator and executive producer of "How I Met Your Mother," said in a statement Thursday. "Katie is a lovely and talented actress, which is why we've saved for her perhaps the most classily-named character in our show's history: The Slutty Pumpkin."
"Mother" stars Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan.
'Ghostbusters' heading back to theaters
CULVER CITY, Calif., Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Sony Pictures says it plans to re-release the classic 1984 comedy film "Ghostbusters" in U.S. theaters for a limited engagement.
The movie, starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver and Ernie Hudson, will be screened in approximately 500 theaters on Oct. 13, 20 and 27 -- one showtime per day.
"Ghostbusters" will also be shown in select theaters in Canada and in various international markets.
"We're delighted to be bringing 'Ghostbusters' back to the big screen -- this is a special celebration of the movie, giving the fans a chance to see it on the big screen in perfect digital presentation," Rory Bruer, president of Worldwide Distribution for Sony Pictures, said in a statement Friday.
"As we head towards Halloween, we ain't afraid of no ghosts, but just the same we're glad that everyone's favorite paranormal eliminators are on the case."
The iconic movie was followed by a sequel, animated series and video game.
