Larry Graham, his friend and manager for nearly 40 years, confirmed Husky's death Thursday to The New York Times.

The cause of death was not reported, but the Times noted Husky had been hospitalized several times in recent years for various health issues.

Husky is best known for "Gone," his 1956 country hit, which crossed over onto the pop chart as well.

The Missouri native and World War II veteran also enjoyed success with the records "A Dear John Letter" and "Wings of a Dove."

A frequent guest on "The Tonight Show," Husky appeared in the films "Mister Rock and Roll" and "Country Music Holiday," as well.

Husky is survived by six daughters; two sons; his companion, country singer Leona Williams; and 11 grandchildren. Husky's son, Danny, died in 1970, the Times noted.

ADELE: Adele, Alan Partridge, Annie Lennox and The Inbetweeners have helped raise nearly $121 million through the U.K. fund-raising show Comic Relief, organizers said.

The BBC reported the amount was the highest raked in on the night of the telethon in the 23-year history of what is known as Red Nose Day. The money raised is to go toward health and education in Africa.

Friday's evening of charity-centric programming included special installments of "EastEnders," "Doctor Who" and "Outnumbered."

The show featured a comedy sketch starring a mock band called Fake That -- made up of David Walliams, John Bishop, Catherine Tate, James Corden and Alan Carr -- who auditioned for the real-life pop stars, Take That. George Michael, Keira Knightley, Rio Ferdinand, Rupert Grint, Tom Felton and Paul McCartney made appearances on the Comic Relief show, as well, the Daily Mail said.

"Even in these tough economic times, the British public has given an incredible response to Comic Relief's appeal, showing yet again their compassion and generosity," the BBC quoted International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell as saying. "The government will come in behind the public's effort, to support and amplify the choices that British people have made."

"Jonathan Kent is the only father figure Clark has ever had, the man who was there to help Clark understand what he was meant to do in the world as Superman," director Zack Snyder said in a statement Thursday.

"Kevin will be able to communicate the quiet strength of this rural American man who raised the greatest superhero of all time."

Costner will star alongside Diane Lane, who plays his wife, Martha, and the film's star, Henry Cavill, who will play the new Clark Kent/Superman.

Costner most recently starred in "The Company Men" in 2010 and is currently in development on the comedy "The One." He won Academy Awards for producing and directing the epic "Dances with Wolves," for which he also garnered a nomination for Best Actor, and has starred in the films "The Untouchables," "No Way Out," "Bull Durham," "Field of Dreams," "JFK," "The Bodyguard," "Wyatt Earp," "Tin Cup" and "Swing Vote."

The as-yet-untitled Superman movie's screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer, based on a story by Goyer and Christopher Nolan. The film is set for release in 2012.
