Broadway's 'Red' to close in 2 weeks

NEW YORK, June 15 (UPI) -- "Red," the Broadway play that won six Tony Awards Sunday, is wrapping up its final two weeks of performances, its producers said.

Starring Alfred Molina, the show's strictly limited engagement is to end June 27 at Manhattan's Golden Theatre. The production will have played 101 performances and 22 previews.

"Red" won Tonys for best play, best director for Michael Grandage, best featured actor for Eddie Redmayne, best set, best lighting and best sound design.

"'Red' is set in 1958 as New York artist Mark Rothko has received the art world's largest commission to create a series of murals for The Four Seasons restaurant in the new Seagram building on Park Avenue," show notes said. "Under the watchful gaze of his young assistant, Ken, and the threatening presence of a new generation of artists, Rothko faces his greatest challenge yet: to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting."
