Bullock jokes life became an IED

LOS ANGELES, June 6 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Sandra Bullock poked fun at her personal life Saturday at an awards show in Los Angeles in her first public appearance since filed for divorce.

In a surprise appearance at Spike TV's Guys Choice Awards, the Academy Award best actress winner accepted the "Troops Choice" award from members of the military and received a standing ovation, People Magazine reported.

"Did I win this for being entertainer of the year, or did I win this because of the spectacular IED (improvised explosive device) explosion that became my personal life?" Bullock, wearing a fitted leather mini-dress, asked the audience.

"No, it's OK. Because I would do it over again if it was to entertain our troops, and our extraordinary troops deserve something much more than some actress in a tight dress talking about herself. …

"I would sing, but you've seen enough pain in your lifetime. I would dance -- I'm a pretty good dancer, but as I mentioned, the dress is pretty tight," Bullock said.

U.S. Army 1st Sergeant Nicholas McClain, onstage with Bullock as she accepted her award, told People she was selected for the "Troops Choice" award "because a lot of the movies that she does -- they provide different venues for everybody to see us. And we know that she has a lot of great support for the troops. And she's America's Sweetheart, regardless of anything that's been going on in her past."

Bullock will receive the "Generation Award" Sunday at the MTV Movie Awards.

The Guys Choice Awards show airs June 20 on Spike TV.
