LONDON, May 13 (UPI) -- A 1986 silk-screen self-portrait by the late U.S. artist Andy Warhol has been sold at auction in New York for more than $32 million, Sotheby's said.

The Daily Telegraph reported fashion designer and film director Tom Ford was the seller of the work, which sold for more than twice the high estimate at the auction.

The Warhol silk-screen was part of Sotheby's spring sale of post-war and contemporary art, which reportedly earned $190 million.

Sotheby's officials told the newspaper the collective auction had achieved a "great, great result," driven by "a global hunger for great icons" such as Warhol and Mark Rothko. An untitled 1961 Rothko sold for $31.4 million at the auction, the Telegraph said.
