LOS ANGELES, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- A Los Angeles judge has approved Redmond O'Neal's release from jail and enrollment in a drug rehabilitation center, E! News said Tuesday.
O'Neal, 25, is the son of the late actress Farrah Fawcett and actor Ryan O'Neal. He has battled an addiction to drugs for several years and been arrested numerous times on drug charges.
He was jailed again in December for violating the terms of his probation by returning to his former court-mandated rehab under the influence following a 24-hour pass.
"The plan for you is severe, and justifiably so," E! News quoted Judge Michael Tynan as telling O'Neal Tuesday. "We all want you to do well, but it's up to you."
O'Neal is expected to move later this week from jail to the rehab, where he is expected to spend the next six to 12 months. He will then be placed in a sober living home after he completes his treatment, E! News said.
