Christian author Dobson to host radio show

NEW YORK, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Christian author James Dobson said he is leaving his U.S. evangelical organization, Focus on the Family, to host a new radio show.

Dobson, 73, confirmed he will part ways with the organization he founded in 1977 so he can co-host the new radio venture with his 38-year-old son Ryan, The New York Times reported Sunday.

Dobson said on his Facebook page on Dec. 29 he was seeking a new way to stop the "moral decline" in the United States.

"Our nation is facing a crisis that threatens its very existence," he said online. "We are in a moral decline of shocking dimensions. I have asked myself how can I sit and watch the world go by without trying to help if I can. That is what motivates me at this time."

The Times said Dobson plans on concluding his daily radio show for Focus on the Family in February so he can start co-hosting the new show titled "James Dobson on the Family" in March.
