CULVER CITY, Calif., Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Apparition and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group say they plan to release a sequel to "The Boondock Saints" in the United States next month.

"The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day" is to open Oct. 30. The film is the continuation of writer/director Troy Duffy's stylized saga of the MacManus brothers -- played by Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery.

While in hiding with their father, played by Billy Connolly, the brothers learn a beloved priest has been killed by sinister forces from deep within the mob and return to Boston to mount a violent and bloody crusade to bring justice to those responsible.

The cast also includes Clifton Collins Jr. and Julie Benz.

Apparition's Bob Berney and SPWAG President Steve Bersch announced the release Thursday.

"The reaction to the filmmakers and cast at Comic-con was phenomenal," Berney said in a statement. "There have been rumors about a sequel for years and they've delivered a solid follow-up with lots of surprises for the fans."

"'The Boondock Saints' franchise is unique in that it has not only a cult-like devotion but also very broad appeal," Bersch said. "'Boondock Saints II' is a great follow-up, featuring both returning cast along with great new cast members. We're thrilled to help support this new chapter in Troy Duffy's vision."
