Police consider new Brian Jones evidence

LONDON, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Police in Sussex, England, say in light of new evidence they are taking another look at the 1969 death of Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones.

Jones, a founding member of the Stones, was discovered dead at age 27 in his swimming pool. The cause was classified at the time as death by misadventure, and drugs and alcohol were believed to have been involved but speculation has persisted that foul play was involved.

"We can confirm that Sussex Police received papers from an investigative journalist in relation to the

death of Brian Jones," a Sussex Police spokesman told The Times of London. "These papers will be examined by Sussex Police, but it is too early to comment at this time as to what the outcome will be."

"There is no time limit on the review. But after 40 years of mystery, anyone who values Brian's reputation will be happy to wait for the outcome," Scott Jones, the journalist who presented the documents to the police, told The Mail on Sunday.

The Times did not offer details about what the documents contain.
