NEW YORK, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Brad Pitt, star of the new World War II flick "Inglourious Basterds," has dismissed Tom Cruise's Nazi-themed picture "Valkyrie" as "ridiculous."

Cruise's 2008 movie was based on the true story of a botched attempt to assassinate German dictator and Holocaust architect Adolf Hitler.

Cruise and Pitt co-starred in the 1994 film "Interview with the Vampire." Rottentomatoes.com indicated both of their WWII movies earned generally favorable reviews.

"The second World War could still deliver more stories and films, but I believe that ('Basterds' director) Quentin (Tarantino) put a cover on that pot. With 'Basterds,' everything than can be said to this genre has been said," People.com quoted Pitt as telling the German magazine Stern. "The film destroys every symbol. The work is done, end of story."

Asked for his opinion about "Valkyrie," Pitt reportedly said, "It was a ridiculous movie."
