LOS ANGELES, July 24 (UPI) -- Singer-actress Shirley Jones is set to make an appearance on the U.S. television comedy series "Ruby & the Rockits."

TVGuide.com reported she will play the mother of David and Patrick Cassidy's characters in an episode to air in September.

Jones previously starred with David, her real-life stepson, in the classic 1970s sit-com "The Partridge Family."

Patrick Cassidy and Shaun Cassidy, the executive producer of "Rockits," are Jones's sons.

"She slept with the producer," Shaun Cassidy joked to TVGuide.com about how his mother landed her guest role on his show. "Although in her defense, I was two years old at the time and afraid of the dark."
