LOS ANGELES, June 2 (UPI) -- Phil Spector's wife Rachelle insists the convicted murderer is innocent and says she plans to stay with him even though he is in a California jail.

The 69-year-old former record producer was convicted of second-degree murder in the 2003 fatal shooting of actress Lana Clarkson. He was sentenced last week to 19 years to life in prison.

"(Phil's) like a little boy. He's locked up in a 5-by-9 cell. He's caged like an animal," Rachelle Spector, 28, told TV's "Inside Edition."

Spector also denied reports her husband, whom she married in September 2006, was Twittering from the Los Angeles County Jail, stating he has limited contact with the outside.

"He gets about 15 minutes a day to make a phone call," she explained. "I only get two 30-minute visits a week."

She shoots down, as well, claims she married Spector for his money and maintains she plans to stay with him because she loves him.

"Before we were even married, I knew the gold digger thing was going to come up," she told "Inside Edition. "I handle and run all of his businesses. I'm like his protector."
