LOS ANGELES, May 26 (UPI) -- Sly Stone's daughter says her dad may not perform in public often or grant many interviews these days, but he is still busily working on his music.
"It's not like he wasn't making music," Novena Carmel, Stone's daughter, told CNN about where the famously media-shy, 66-year-old musician has been in recent years. "He was enjoying his life and riding motorcycles, one of his passions."
Stone's group Sly and the Family Stone was enormously popular in the 1960s and 1970s, however, Stone in later years failed to show up for concerts and interviews, earning him a reputation for being a recluse.
CNN said Stone has been more reliable lately, occasionally performing at Los Angeles clubs with Carmel and her group BabyStone.
"She is the force that keeps him straight," Anthony Valadez, a KCRW-Los Angeles disc jockey, told CNN. "I think it's her energy and their bond that is so sacred that keeps him in line. That's what brings Sly out."
