LONDON, May 23 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Tony Curtis said in a profanity-laced interview with a BBC journalist he was upset by his Oscar nomination for the film "The Defiant Ones."
The 84-year-old actor swore repeatedly while talking with BBC Radio Ulster journalist William Crawley, particularly when speaking about his "Defiant" nomination and a comment he made about actress Marilyn Monroe, The Daily Telegraph said Saturday.
"They nominated Sidney (Poitier) and I for the same part in that film, and that was (profanity), I was offended by that," Curtis said of the best actor Academy Award nods the film prompted.
Curtis also downplayed his comment about how kissing Monroe for the 1959 film "Some Like It Hot" was like kissing Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
"And you know what, some (profanity) go away and make that a headline," said Curtis, who said the comment was made amid on-set pressures.
The Telegraph said Crawley offered an apology to listeners regarding the language used by Curtis, who also offered an apology after realizing Friday's broadcast was live.
"This program will go down in history as one of those unpredictable moments in broadcasting," Crawley said.
