'Terminator' has $3M midnight debut

LOS ANGELES, May 22 (UPI) -- "Terminator Salvation" earned $3 million at the U.S. box office during Thursday midnight screenings, Warner Bros. said.

The fourth installment in the "Terminator" film franchise earned a total of $13.37 million for all of Thursday's U.S. screenings, Variety.com reported.

"X-Men Origins: Wolverine" grossed nearly $5 million in midnight engagements May 1 and "Watchmen" grossed $4.6 million at its first late-night screenings in March.

The entertainment industry trade newspaper said both "Terminator" and the new family flick "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" are expected to rack up more than $50 million during the Memorial Day weekend.
