Singer Buffett signs with Miami Dolphins

MIAMI, May 17 (UPI) -- Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross says he reached a marketing deal with Jimmy Buffett, renaming the team's stadium after the singer's beer brand.

As part of the Florida NFL franchise's agreement with the "Margaritaville" singer, Dolphin Stadium was renamed after Buffett's beer, LandShark Lager, The Miami Herald reported Saturday.

Ross said renaming his team's stadium LandShark Stadium and having Buffett tweak one of his hits to create a new Dolphins jingle should give his team more fan appeal.

''Jimmy really represents South Florida … that Florida culture, lifestyle. Who better represents that?" Ross said "People want to have a good time when they come to these games. We want to take it to a new level."

LandShark is only signed through the playoffs of the upcoming NFL season, meaning the Dolphins' stadium could revert back to its old name or be tabbed with a new title for the 2010 Pro Bowl and Super Bowl unless an extension is reached, the Herald said.
