CANNES, France, May 14 (UPI) -- Brad Pitt, Quentin Tarantino, Penelope Cruz and Johnny Depp are among stars expected to promote their latest movies at the Cannes film festival, the BBC said.

The Disney/Pixar movie "Up" became the first animated movie to open the festival Wednesday.

The 62nd edition of the renowned film series is slated to run through May 24 when its top honor, the Palme d'Or prize, is to be awarded.
