SHORT HILLS , N.J., May 12 (UPI) -- Matthew Reeve, a member of the Board of Directors of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, has signed up to run the 2009 ING New York City Marathon.
Reeve is a producer and director, as well as the son of the late Christopher Reeve, a popular film actor and director, who died in 2004 of complications from a spinal cord injury he sustained in a horseback riding accident years earlier. Dana, Matthew's stepmother, died in 2006 of lung cancer.
"As a first-time runner, I do not underestimate the challenge that lies ahead," Matthew Reeve said in a statement. "But I am motivated to do the training, to run, and to cross that finish line by the millions of people living with spinal cord injury who struggle daily with considerable challenges."
Peter T. Wilderotter, president and chief executive officer of the Reeve Foundation, added: "We are thrilled Matthew will be running the ING New York City Marathon this fall with other members of Team Reeve to raise awareness and funds for the Reeve Foundation's critical mission. Through support of ground-breaking research, education, and advocacy, the Reeve Foundation is racing toward the finish line: finding a cure for paralysis."
