McCanns keep room ready for girl's return

CHICAGO, May 1 (UPI) -- Madeleine McCann's mother says she keeps the missing British girl's room ready for her return, visiting it twice a day.

Speaking to U.S. television host Oprah Winfrey in an interview, Kate McCann said: "It's all ready. I go in about twice a day. Morning and evening, (I) just say hello. Tell her we're still going, you know, we're going to do everything we can to find her," People Magazine reported Friday.

Kate McCann and her husband Gerry, who were once suspected in Madeleine's disappearance from a Portuguese resort two years ago, told Winfrey they sometimes allow themselves to imagine the worst.

"I do," Kate McCann said. "As a mom, inevitably there are times when I do. There are the times that I kind of dip down."

Police closed the McCann case last summer, People said, reporting husband Gerry as telling Winfrey: "A child abduction ... could destroy any family. There's no doubt about it. It's one of the most devastating things. But ... I think it's helped us stay strong and stay together. We're really united in our goal and our love of Madeleine and (her younger siblings, twins) Sean and Amelie."
