LOS ANGELES, April 27 (UPI) -- Twentieth Century Fox announced Monday that the Mexico City premiere of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" has been postponed due to the swine flu outbreak.

The film -- which had been set to screen Wednesday in Mexico City -- stars Australian actor Hugh Jackman, reprising the character of Wolverine he previously played in three "X-Men" blockbusters. It is slated for theatrical release in the United States Friday.

"We were not only concerned about Hugh's welfare -- and we would never send anyone into harm's way -- but we also have an enormous office filled with people we care about," a representative for the studio told People.com. "There was no point in proceeding under the current conditions."

The publicist said the event may be rescheduled.

"Hugh is obviously beloved (there,) so we'll see what happens. We'll monitor the situation," the representative said.
