Jill Scott gives birth to a son

LOS ANGELES, April 22 (UPI) -- U.S. singer and actress Jill Scott has given birth to a son, her representatives said.

Baby Jett Hamilton Roberts was born Monday afternoon, E! News reported.

The child is the first for Scott and her drummer fiance Lil' John Roberts, who announced in June 2008 they were engaged.

Scott plays Botswanan detective Precious Ramotswe in the HBO series based on Alexander McCall Smith's "No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency" books. Her film credits include "Hounddog" and "Why Did I Get Married?"
