SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 14 (UPI) -- Actors Noah Wyle and Jeff Garlin led a celebrity lineup at a fundraiser in Santa Monica, Calif., to benefit the marine conservation organization Oceana.
Project Save Our Surf -- which was also attended by David Chokachi ("Baywatch") and Eric Balfour ("24") -- raised $40,000, organizers said. Actress Tanna Frederick and surfing star Shaun Tomson served as hosts for the April 5 event.
An all-star lineup of surfers -- including Rob Machado, James Pribram, Jeremy Sherwin, Alex Gray, David O'Donnell, Chris Rydell, Jon Rose, Peter "P.T." Townend and Frank Caronna -- held surfing competitions during the day. Wyle served as host of a gala in the evening that featured appearances by actors Eliot Gould and Judd Nelson and director Henry Jaglom.
Machado was honored with the Project Save Our Surf award for his environmental activism in Southern California, and Billabong Chief Executive Officer Paul Naude received the Oceana Sea Friend Award for his contributions to ocean conservation.
The gala also featured an auction with bidding on, among other items, a surf lesson with Rob Machado and a guitar signed by Brandon Boyd of the band Incubus.
