LOS ANGELES, March 23 (UPI) -- Oscar-winning fraternal filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen are planning a remake of the Hollywood classic "True Grit," Variety.com said.

John Wayne won an Academy Award for his portrayal of ornery U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn in the 1969 western based on Charles Portis' book.

The Coen brothers' retelling of the story is expected to be more faithful to the novel than the original movie was, telling the tale from the point of view of the 14-year-old girl character who hires Cogburn to find the man who killed her father, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.

The filmmaking duo's big-screen credits include "Burn After Reading," "No Country for Old Men," "O Brother, Where Are Thou?" "The Big Lebowski" and "Fargo."
