LOS ANGELES, March 20 (UPI) -- The widower of the late U.S. filmmaker Adrienne Shelly is developing and producing a movie based on one of her screenplays.

Shelly wrote, directed and starred in the popular 2007 independent film "Waitress," which was released in theaters after Shelly was strangled by an intruder at a New York apartment she used as an office.

The Hollywood Reporter said her widower Andy Ostroy plans to see her script for the multigenerational family drama "The Morgan Stories" make it to the big screen, as well.

"It's a little bigger than some of her other work," Ostroy, who owns a marketing firm, told the entertainment industry trade newspaper. "If Adrienne's previous movies were comedies with a little bit of drama, this is a drama with a little bit of comedy."

Ostroy also produced "Serious Moonlight," a dark comedy based on another script Shelly wrote before she died. "Waitress" star Cheryl Hines made her directorial debut with "Moonligt," which is slated to have its world premiere next month at the Tribeca Film Festival.
