NEW YORK, March 20 (UPI) -- Liam Neeson and Vanessa Redgrave watched the lights dim on Broadway Thursday night in honor of the late actress Natasha Richardson.

Richardson, who was Neeson's wife and Redgrave's daughter, died Wednesday at the age of 45 of an epidural hematoma due to blunt impact. She had been involved in a skiing accident Monday in Canada and sustained a fatal head injury.

Usmagazine.com said Neeson and Redgrave were met by their married actor friends Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick at the light-dimming tribute to the beloved Tony Award-winning actress Thursday on the Great White Way in Manhattan.

The New York Daily News described Neeson as "grim-faced" and surrounded by friends and family as well-wishers hugged him and offered their condolences during his brief appearance for which the media was kept at bay.

The newspaper also noted Neeson arrived at and left the tribute alone.

E! News said a private memorial is being planned for Richardson by the Greenwich Village Funeral Home in Manhattan.
