LOS ANGELES, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Seth Green has signed on to co-star with Joan Cusack in Robert Zemeckis' adaptation of Berkeley Breathed's children's novel, "Mars Needs Moms."

Green, 35, told The Hollywood Reporter making the motion-capture film is like "performing in a black box theater with no costumes, no sets, just actors looking into each other's eyes trying to make it real."

A former cast member on the TV series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," Green has appeared in the "Austin Powers" movies, as well as the films "Can't Hardly Wait," "Rat Race," "America's Sweethearts," "Without a Paddle," "Scooby-Doo 2" and "Party Monster." He also co-directs and writes the comedy series "Robot Chicken."

The actor will play a boy named Milo who attempts to rescue his mother, played by Cusack, after she is kidnapped by aliens in "Moms," The Hollywood Reporter said.

Green's "Austin Powers" mom, Mindy Sterling, will play the fearsome alien leader of Mars.
