LOS ANGELES, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal have been cast in an updated, big-screen musical version of "Damn Yankees," Variety.com said.

In the new version of "Damn Yankees," Carrey would play the Devil with whom Joe Boyd, a middle-aged baseball fan, makes a dangerous deal to see his favorite team do well. The Devil helps the guy out by transforming him into star player Joe Hardy for the price of his soul, Variety.com said. Gyllenhaal would play Hardy.

The project marks the first musical for both Carrey and Gyllenhaal.
