LONDON, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- U.S. recording artist Art Garfunkel says he and Paul Simon are planning their first concert tour in five years.

"Our plan to work together is coming together but it doesn't go through England this time," Garfunkel told BBC News.

Garfunkel declined to say where exactly the latest Simon and Garfunkel tour would go.

The duo's 2003-04 concerts marked the first time in two decades that they toured together.

The BBC said Garfunkel surprised the audience by appearing on stage at Simon's concert last weekend to celebrate the reopening of New York's Beacon Theater after it had undergone refurbishment.

The pair performed three of their biggest hits -- "The Sounds of Silence," "The Boxer" and "Old Friends."

"It had a real reaction -- it was extraordinary," Garfunkel told the BBC about playing with Simon again. "I said to the audience, 'You don't have a right to expect -- and we didn't expect -- that the interest in us would last and you would still care right to today and I'm touched.'"

Simon and Garfunkel, who have had a stormy relationship through the years, are known for their classic songs "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "Mrs. Robinson" and "Scarborough Fair."
