U.S. team wins international dance-off

BURBANK, Calif., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- The U.S. team won TV's first international "Superstars of Dance" competition with the most points overall -- 530.

Australia was a close second with 525 points and South Africa came in third with a total of 460 points.

"Superstars of Dance" invited dancers from Argentina, Australia, China, India, Ireland, Russia, South Africa and the United States to compete in what NBC described as "a fierce and exhilarating international dance competition."

Maria Kochetkova, a ballerina from Russia, took home the gold medal in the solo category.

Argentina's Miriam Larici and Leonardo Barrionuevo won the gold medal in the duet category and America's Groovaloos picked up the gold medal in the group category.

Michael Flatley and Susie Castillo served as co-hosts of the television competition series.
