NEW YORK, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Sci Fi Channel says Justin Louis, David Blue, Brian J. Smith and Jamil Walker Smith are set to co-star in its new original series, "Stargate Universe."

The four join a cast headed by Robert Carlyle, a Scottish actor known for his work in the films "Trainspotting," "Ravenous," "The Full Monty" and "Angela's Ashes."

Production on the show is slated to begin next month in Vancouver, with an eye toward a fall premiere.

"Edgier and younger in tone than the two previous series, 'SGU' follows a band of soldiers, scientists and civilians, who must fend for themselves as they are forced through a Stargate when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard an ancient ship, which is locked on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth," Sci Fi said in a news release.

Louis has appeared in "Hidden Hills" and "The Fighting Fitzgeralds;" Blue on "Ugly Betty" and "Moonlight;" Brian J. Smith in "The War Boys" and "Hate Crime;" and Jamil Walker Smith in "Waynehead" and "Sister, Sister."
