Hanks and Mathis join 'Variations' cast

NEW YORK, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Colin Hanks and Samantha Mathis have joined Jane Fonda in the cast of the upcoming Broadway production of "33 Variations," it has been announced.

Previews of the play are to begin Feb. 9 at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre in New York. The show's official opening is scheduled for March 9, representatives for the play said in a release.

Rehearsals have begun for the cast, which also includes Zach Grenier, Don Amendolia, Susan Kellermann, Erik Steele and Diane Walsh.

The play's limited engagement is slated to run through May 24.

Moises Kaufman is both the author and director of "33 Variations," a work that will mark his Broadway debut as a playwright.

In addition to being the Artistic Director of Tectonic Theater Project, Kaufman is a Tony and Emmy Award-nominated director and award-winning playwright for "I Am My Own Wife" and "The Laramie Project."

Mathis has appeared in the films "Pump Up the Volume," "The Thing Called Love," "The Punisher," "American Psycho," "Broken Arrow," "The American President" and "Little Women."

Hanks's big-screen credits include "W.," "The House Bunny" and "King Kong." He also has a recurring role on the TV series "Mad Men."
