LOS ANGELES, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Jazz musician Freddie Hubbard died at the age of 70 Monday in a Los Angeles area hospital after suffering a heart attack last month, USA Today reported.
The Indianapolis-born trumpeter played with music titans such as John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, McCoy Tyner, Art Blakey and Herbie Hancock. Hubbard frequently collaborated with saxophonist Wayne Shorter, as well, Billboard.com noted.

A recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts' Jazz Masters Award in 2006, Hubbard also won a Grammy Award for "First Light" in 1972.
His publicist told Billboard.com a New York memorial for the musician is being planned.
