NASHVILLE, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Singer Mindy McCready is in stable condition at a Nashville hospital after undergoing surgery following an apparent suicide attempt, the hospital said.

McCready, whose career has been eclipsed in recent years by her battle with substance abuse, stints in jail and the revelation of her alleged long-term affair with married former New York Yankee pitcher Roger Clemens, was hospitalized Wednesday morning.

Nashville police told the New York Daily News the 33-year-old recording artist slashed her wrists at her younger brother's Nashville home.

Timothy McCready told police he came home at about 3:30 a.m. to find his sister "very intoxicated" and noticed blood on her bed when he went to check on her later that morning.

Mindy McCready had surgery Thursday to repair a severed tendon in her left arm and also underwent a psychiatric evaluation, a source told the Daily News.

"She came through her surgery just fine. She is recovering nicely," the source said.
