Mendes to bring 'Preacher' to big screen

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- British movie and stage director Sam Mendes has agreed to direct a movie based on the graphic novel "Preacher," which is about an evil-battling Texas minister.

Mendes directed the Oscar-winning "American Beauty," as well as "Road to Perdition," another graphic-novel adaptation. His new movie, "Revolutionary Road," is due in theaters this year.

Variety.com said Mendes will soon direct the big-screen version of "Preacher." The 75-issue series of supernatural-themed graphic novels was created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon. The books were published from 1995 to 2000, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.
