Scorsese, De Niro to reunite for mob flick

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro are planning to reunite for the Hollywood adaptation of the mob memoir "I Heard You Paint Houses."

The pair previously worked together on "Mean Streets," "Taxi Driver," "Raging Bull," "Goodfellas," "Cape Fear" and "Casino."

Variety.com said Scorsese is to direct Steve Zaillian's adaptation of Charles Brandt's book about the mob hit man many believe was involved in the death of Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa.

De Niro is expected to play Frank "the Irishman" Sheeran, who is believed to have committed more than 25 mob slayings, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.

Brandt, a former chief deputy attorney general of Delaware, interviewed Sheeran extensively for the book shortly before Sheeran's death in 2003.

Zaillian penned "American Gangster" and co-wrote Scorsese's "Gangs of New York."
