Kaczmarek says her family only has one TV

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Jane Kaczmarek says her family has only one TV set in the house, even though she and her husband Bradley Whitford are both U.S. television actors.

The star of "Raising the Bar," who also had a lead role on the sit-com "Malcolm in the Middle" for seven seasons, is married to Whitford, former star of "The West Wing" and "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." They have three children ranging in age from 5 to 10.

"We don't watch much (TV,)" Kaczmarek told Scholastic Parent & Child magazine. "We're big readers."

The actress said her schoolteacher mother encouraged her to read as a child and the habit stayed with her.

"I always loved going to the library," Kaczmarek said. "There weren't any giant bookstores back then. The library was also air-conditioned -- which was a big lure."
